Synopsis
A day in June 2004: a taxi arrives at Akasaka, Tokyo, from Niigata prefecture. The Hasuikes, former abductees to North Korea, have come to meet the parents and brothers of their fellow captive Yokota Megumi and inform them about her.
November 1977: Yokota Megumi is kidnapped on her way back from high school; she was 13. After this she would spend her days in North Korea with five fellow captives: the Hasuikes, the Chimuras and Soga Hitomi.
After being brought to North Korea, Megumi puts in a lot of effort to learn Korean as she believes this will allow her to go back to Japan. At this time she meets Soga Hitomi, who has just been kidnapped from Sado, Niigata, and still has leg injuries. Their life of being taught and monitored by their instructor begins.
After the five return to Japan, they relate aspects of Megumi's life in North Korea - how she never gave up her wish to reunite with her family despite the tough conditions. This wish is shared by her family who try to track her down. - NTV synopsis, translated by Lzydata
